Description
Protein is an essential nutrient needed in the diet. It is needed to stimulate muscle protein synthesis and contributes to muscle growth. It is recommended that athletes consume 1.2-1.7 g of protein per kg of body weight per day and this protein intake should be spread throughout the day. Protein is made up of building blocks called amino acids. There are 20 amino acids in total, 9 of which are called essential amino acids. This means that they are not made by our body and need to be consumed through the diet. Three of these essential amino acids are known as the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and these are leucine, isoleucine and valine. Etixx BCAA also contains potassium which contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal muscle function and the maintenance of normal blood pressure.
