Description
The amount of carbohydrates available is a determining factor in performance during high-intensity endurance and intermittent exercise (alternating effort and short rest periods). It is therefore important to replenish carbohydrates during these types of efforts, since they are responsible for maintaining blood glucose levels during exercise and replenishing muscle glycogen .
These energy bars are suitable for both pre- and post-exercise use. Beforehand, the athlete's body needs to have as large a carbohydrate reserve as possible. This is achieved by eating a carbohydrate-rich diet in the days before competition or intensive training (=carbohydrate loading) and by consuming a carbohydrate-rich meal 1.5 to 4 hours before competition/training. Etixx energy bars can be eaten as a snack in the days before competition and during or immediately after the pre-competition meal. It is recommended to consume 30 and 60 g of carbohydrates respectively during 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 hour exercises, which corresponds to 1 or 2 energy bars.

How many carbohydrates should I eat during an effort?
- Efforts <1 hour: no need to ingest carbohydrates during exercise.
- 1-2 hour effort: 30 g carbohydrates per hour of effort (approx. 1 energy bar).
- 2-3 hour effort: 60 g carbohydrates per hour of effort (approx. 2 energy bars).
- Effort of >2.5-3 hours: up to 90 g carbohydrates per hour of effort (up to approx. 3 energy bars).
