Description
The amount of carbohydrate that is available for energy is a key factor determining performance in endurance and high intensity intermittent exercise. Therefore, during exercise where carbohydrates may be depleted, it is important that additional fuel is taken in to maintain performance and prevent fatigue. This ensures that blood glucose levels are maintained during exercise and muscle glycogen is restored. Etixx Energy Sport Bar contains approx. 29g of carbohydrate and is suitable for pre- and/or intra-exercise use. It can be used pre-exercise as part of a carbohydrate loading strategy to ensure that muscle glycogen stores are maximised prior to a competition. Athletes preparing for long, intense exercise should aim to eat a carbohydrate-rich diet in the days leading up to their competition and Etixx Energy Sport Bar is an excellent snack to include in this strategy. During competitions where carbohydrate demands may deplete muscle glycogen, carbohydrate consumption during exercise is critical to maintaining performance and minimising fatigue. Our carbohydrate reserves are depleted after about 90 minutes of exercise.
How many carbohydrates should we consider?
- Exercises <1h (15): It is not necessary to consume carbohydrates during exercise
- Exercises 1-2h: 30g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise.(~ 1 energy bar)
- Exercises 2-3h: 60 g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise.(~ 2 energy bars)
- Exercise >2.5-3h: up to 90g carbohydrate per hour of exercise (~up to 3 energy bars)
