Description
The primary fuel for prolonged, intense endurance events is carbohydrate and therefore the amount of carbohydrate stored in the body is one of the main determinants of performance. As such, it is important that carbohydrate stores are maximised prior to endurance exercise and that during prolonged exercise where these may be depleted, additional carbohydrate is consumed to maintain performance and prevent fatigue. Carbohydrate consumption will help to maintain blood glucose levels and replenish muscle glycogen. If carbohydrate is not consumed, muscle glycogen will be depleted after approx. 90 minutes of exercise and severe fatigue may occur. The amount of carbohydrate you should take during exercise will depend on the duration of your training or competition.
- Exercises <1h (15): It is not necessary to consume carbohydrates during exercise.
- Exercises 1-2h: 30g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (~1 energy gel)
- Exercises 2-3h: 60 g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (~ 2 energy gels)
- Exercises > 2.5-3h: up to 90g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise. (~ Up to 3 energy gels)
Ginseng & Guarana Energy Gel contains a unique sugar blend consisting of fast acting sugars (glucose and maltose), semi-slow acting sugars (sucrose) and slow acting sugars (complex sugars). This is what we call the “Triple Action Effect” (triphasic sugars) – it offers a quick burst of energy, and also provides energy in a more sustained manner over a long period of time (see figure). In addition, glucose and fructose use different transport systems when absorbed into the body. This means that more total carbohydrates can simultaneously enter the bloodstream when glucose and fructose are consumed together compared to when only one of the two sugars is consumed (Jentjens et al., 2004) 1 Energy Gel is highly concentrated in sugar form, which translates into large amounts of fuel. To get the same amount of carbohydrates in an energy drink you would have to drink large amounts of liquid which would increase the likelihood of gastrointestinal upset. It also contains no added nutrients such as protein or fat that can slow down stomach emptying. Not only that, but Etixx Ginseng & Guarana Energy Gel will be ideal for those key moments when it really matters and you need an extra boost. It provides us with extra energy from the unique combination of sugars and a real mental and physical boost from Ginseng and Guarana. Guarana is a berry that contains high concentrations of natural caffeine. It is a well-known fact that caffeine intake has a positive effect on concentration and alertness.

Who will benefit from Etixx Ginseng & Guarana Energy Gel?
Etixx Ginseng & Guarana Energy Gel is suitable for all athletes who need to quickly replenish their energy with carbohydrates during prolonged exercise. It is therefore ideal for consumption immediately before or during prolonged endurance events such as cycling, triathlons and marathons. The added caffeine from guarana makes it particularly suitable for situations within these events where an extra boost is needed, i.e. a climb of a key mountain or hill in the race or a sprint finish. In addition, it can also be useful for team sports athletes to consume during rest periods.
